Alberschwende, 23rd July 2009 - The exterior shell of the Austria House for the Olympic Games 2010 in Canada has been completed. The passive house was shipped to the North American continent on 23rd July 2009. In an official ceremony the Austrian energy-efficiency showcase project was officially seen off by the operating companies of the Austrian Passivehouse Group (APG).
The construction of the Austria House for the Olympic Games 2010 in Canada required a total of 120 cubic metres of locally produced wood. After four weeks of prefabrication, the exterior shell, as well as the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning for the passive house, was loaded into six containers at Sohm Holzbautechnik in Alberschwende, Vorarlberg.
From Alberschwende the freight was shipped to the goods station at Wolfurt by lorry, from which point the containers were transported to Hamburg by railway. At Hamburg the freight was loaded onto the ship which will transport the Austria House to Montreal over the next three weeks. The passive house will then travel to Whistler in the Canadian province of British Columbia, over land, and will arrive at its destination by the end of August.
