The APG Austria House for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games was built as a passive house and is therefore very energy efficient and ecological.
The patented Holzbau Sohm DD DiagonalDowel wood elements which were used to build the Austria House are securely joined with diagonally-inserted hard-wood dowels, without the use of toxic glues or chemicals. The ecology of the Austria House is supported by the certified OPTIWIN passive house windows, as these windows are made with natural insulating materials, like sheep wool, only. Fresh, filtered air is provided around the clock by the compact ventilation system of Drexel und Weiss adding to the constantly comfortable room climate in the Austria House.
Thanks to the super insulated construction of the house and the premium products used for the house, the costs for cooling, heating and warm water adds up to only about 350,- € per year for the 250m2 Austria Passive House.
